Overview

Project Overview

A product design and front-end system for a SaaS analytics dashboard. The interface turns complex operational data into clear, glanceable decisions — with a design system built to scale.

Business Goal

Give operators a single, calm surface to monitor performance and act on it without cognitive overload.

The Problem

The legacy dashboard piled charts on top of tables on top of filters. Users couldn't tell what was important, what needed action, and what was just background noise.

Research

Understanding the ground

  1. 01

Shadowed operators to see how they scan, filter and act during the day.

  2. 02

Categorized every existing metric by 'must know', 'good to know' and 'archive'.

  3. 03

Studied top-tier product dashboards (Linear, Stripe, Vercel) for information density.

Design Process

From idea to interface

  • Step 01

Restructured the layout around a primary insight strip and secondary detail surfaces.

  • Step 02

Designed a component set: KPI cards, time-series charts, tables, filters, empty states.

  • Step 03

Built a tokenized design system so every screen inherits from one source of truth.

Wireframing

Structure before style

Grayscale wireframes established the reading order — headline metrics first, then trends, then tables — before any styling was applied.

Solution

The design in action

A composed dashboard where hierarchy does the work: strong numbers, quiet chrome, decisive charts, and dense tables that respect the reader. The system scales to new modules without visual drift.

Key Features

What makes it work

Insight strip

Primary KPIs surfaced above the fold with trend deltas.

Composable charts

One chart kit — line, area, bar, sparkline.

Filter grammar

Consistent filter chips, keyboard-friendly, URL-synced.

Design tokens

Colors, spacing, radii, motion — one source of truth.

Challenges

Trade-offs we solved

Challenge 01

Density without noise

Fit real operator data without shouting.

Challenge 02

Empty and loading states

Design the 5% of moments that make a product feel professional.

Final Outcome

Where it landed

  • ✓

A dashboard that operators can scan in seconds and drill into with confidence.

  • ✓

A design system ready to power new modules without a redesign.

  • ✓

Accessible color, contrast and keyboard patterns as standard.
